Course

General presentation
This course is an introduction to the communicative competence approach to language teaching. It is designed to help students acquire the necessary skills to function effectively in a business environment as well as in a wide range of contexts. Groups of students are designed according to their entrance level based on the concours oral exam. The course will include a new evaluation of each student’s level thanks to a mock TOEIC and a series of assignments.

Course objectives
To provide the necessary tools enabling students to adapt to an English-speaking and cross-cultural environment. To improve students’ ability to communicate and function effectively in English. To develop an awareness of the realities of the corporate world with regards to the use of English (company projects). Organization of the course 12 sessions of 1hr and 30 focusing on professional skills 1 workshop of 4 sessions on specific topic areas 2 sessions for company projects Maximum size: from 14 to 18 students depending on the level of the group.

Course content
The course will concentrate on the following areas: Development of communicative competence in English. Individual assessment of language proficiency on the TOEIC Workshops developing cross-cultural issues for the partners. Workshops enhancing linguistic competence for the learners.

Individual work & Evaluation
There will be a systematic diagnosis for each student. All students must have a score on a mock TOEIC by the end of their " Foundation Course ". The final grades will be based on the three areas as explained below: Written work: CV + cover letter + three essays minimum 1/3 Oral presentations: some individual and one group presentation (company project) 1/3 Participation in class debates and activities with preparation 1/3
