Cross-Cultural Communication

Presentation
Understanding the major cultural differences between these two nationalities as needed for business relations. We'll examine historical backgrounds, national stereotypes and culture, and focus especially on the business culture today.

Teaching objectives
Examine the differences between American and French culture: notions of time and space, education, psychology, work ethic, communication style, and especially business. · Develop students' public-speaking skills through discussions, debates and presentations.

Format
One meeting weekly of 3 hours during 7 weeks.

Course content
This course will feature lectures, class discussions and debates and student presentations.

Individual and group work
Students will be given assignments to prepare for class · Active participation in class discussions and debates · Sudents will give an individual or group presentation of a business situation and how it might be treated by different cultures.

Evaluation
Students will be graded based on their active participation in class debate, their assignments and their presentations.

Recommended level
This course is designed for students of all levels
