Presentation
This is an English for Special Purpose course focusing on the use of English
for Marketing. Based on specialized vocabulary, professional meetings
and case studies, the course will prepare students understand the linguistic
demands of marketing.
Teaching objectives
1. To familiarise students with the specialised vocabulary of marketing
in English. 2. To make students operational in meetings and presentations
concerning the subject of marketing. 3. To make students aware of cultural
differences between French-speaking and English-speaking environments
insofar as they affect marketing strategies.
Format
1 meeting weekly of 3 hours during 9 weeks. Maximum number of students:
25
Course content
Classroom activities: 1. Vocabulary acquisition exercises and explanation
of marketing concepts. 2. Training in professional meetings and presentations.
3. Mini-case studies/simulations 4. Vocabulary test at end of course +
Self-Study in Language Resource Centre and library research.
Teaching methods
Completion of tasks as above plus direction of classroom simulations.
Students will work in groups of 3 to present a project before the end
of the course.
Individual work
Preparation for case studies, meetings, and presentations. Written work
(reports, letters, etc..) Self-study in the Resource Centre.
Evaluation Participation :
25% Project: 25% Written work: 25% Vocabulary and definitions test: 25%
Recommended level
This course is designed for students with an advanced level in English
who are motivated by business topics.
