Presentation
A general business English course based on vocabulary acquisition and
business simulations in case studies. The course will cover all basic
aspects of marketing, finance, logistics, banking, insurance and law.
Teaching objectives
To allow students to express themselves fluently and accurately in professional
business situations. To teach the specific vocabulary used in specialised
business fields. To improve listening comprehension and stimulate discussion.
Format
1 meeting weekly of 3 hours during 7 weeks.
Course content
The course will be based upon the recently published book "English for
the New Business World", Editions Belin, by the author Michael Brookes.
This material will be supplemented by videos of business programs and
articles from the press.
Teaching methods
Case studies and simulations. Listening comprehension work. Discussion
of topics, collectively and in groups. Various written exercises : letters,
faxes, e-mails, reports.
Individual work
Preparation of oral simulations. Drafting of written exercises.
Evaluation
Participation in class will be a key criterion, together with the assessment
of written work.
Recommended level
This course is designed for students with an intermediate level in English
who are motivated by business topics.
