Presentation
This course is designed for students who have a particular interest in
a specific field or subject (international humanitarian missions, Pop
Art, American poetry, English in business…) with an international or English
focus. The students will work on their own in small groups (2-4) to carry
out their project (research, documentation, implementation) under the
supervision of a professor and other tutors (teaching assistants or students)
for advice and feedback on process and methodology.
Teaching objectives
To help students develop their English language skills in the context
of a personal project To make students more self-reliant as to their learning
and practicing of English 3. To acquire thorough knowledge of one particular
topic with an international or English focus
Format :
Independent studies during one trimester Maximum number of students: 25
Course content
Research on the Internet or in libraries about a given topic of the students’
choice after it has been approved by the professor. Meetings will then
ensure appropriate methodology and work load from the students to complete
their projects. Outside of project management theory and presentation
skills methods, alongside with advice for good writing, the material for
the course will depend on the topics chosen by the students.
Teaching methods
Small group or individual meetings with professor alternated with discussion
and debates with tutors. Three formal sessions (lectures) will take place
for methodology and technical skills.
Individual work
Considerable personal work is demanded from the students both for research
and implementation of the project. An oral presentation on Powerpoint
and a written report of about 20 pages with bibliography will be expected.
Evaluation
Oral in meetings and final presentation : 60% Bibliograpphy and final
report : 40% Recommended Level This course is designed for students who
are able to work on their own and in small groups and who are highly motivated
by a specific subject linked with English-speaking matters.
