Presentation
This course will teach students how to present effective, communicative,
and professional business presentations using PowerPoint software.
Teaching Objectives
To learn how to make business presentations individually and in groups.
To better understand how to add visual and audio effects to PowerPoint.
To learn the standard English of professional presentations. To develop
confidence, effectiveness, and accuracy in business speaking.
Format
One weekly meeting of 3 hours.
Course Content
This course will cover how to give a wide variety of business presentations
in English. The types of business presentations given will depend on the
students’ specific business interests. As a core, however, students will
be expected to give PowerPoint presentations for a SWOT Analysis (Strategy),
Financial Statements (Accounting), Analysis of Capital Budgeting Options
(Finance), and Marketing Plan (Marketing). Students are welcome to present
cases and materials from prior HEC business courses.
Teaching Methods
The teacher will give general guidelines on how to make effective presentations.
The students will then make a series of presentations in groups. These
presentations will account for about 80 to 90 percent of class time.
Individual and Group Work
Students give their presentations in groups of four to five. For each
presentation, each student should expect to spend time outside of class
for preparation and practice, individually, and as a group.
Evaluation
The final grade is based on the average of the grades received for the
group and for the individual. The group grade has a weight of 40% ; the
individual grade, 60%.
Recommended Level
This course is beneficial for students who are fluent or semi-fluent in
English.
