Presentation
This course will teach students how to discuss business strategy in a
professional way
Teaching Objectives
To learn how to speak about strategy, strategic planning, and strategic
analysis. To better understand the technical vocabulary of strategy. To
learn how to make presentations involving strategic analysis. To help
students for English-speaking roles in investment banking and consulting.
Format
One weekly meeting of 3 hours.
Course Content
Much of the traditional content of strategy will be taught and discussed
including business- level strategy, corporate-level strategy, stakeholder
analysis, SWOT, BCG and McKinsey Matrices, diversification, Five-Forces
Model, economics of the firm, game theory, portfolio analysis, mergers
and acquisition, environmental analysis, sustainable competitive advantage,
and so on.
Teaching Methods
The teacher will spend most of the early sessions teaching the concepts
and the vocabulary of strategy. The students will make one minor and one
major group presentation dealing with either one aspect of strategy or
with a strategic business plan.
Individual and Group Work
Students give their presentations in groups of four to five. For each
presentation, each student should expect to spend time outside of class
for preparation and practice, individually, and as a group.
Evaluation
The final grade is based on the average of the grades received for the
group and for the individual. The group grade has a weight of 40% ; the
individual grade, 60%.
Recommended Level
This course is beneficial for students who have a good level of English
and who would like to work in an English-speaking investment bank or consulting
firm.
